Dogs teach us to love; cats teach us to live.
RESEARCHERS claim that the breed of dog you choose can reflect your personality. Researcher Lance Workman from the United Kingdom said people often go for dogs that are a bit like them. Although sometimes opposite attracts, the research believes that in many cases, certain people are attracted to certain breeds that somewhat reflect their inner selves. Workman's study grouped certain types of dogs and the people who are likely to own them. A. Gun Dogs (Labrador, Golden Retriever, Spaniels, Pointers) * Likely to be owned by the most agreeable and conscientious type of people. B. Hound Dogs (Greyhound, Beagles and Afghans) * Usually owned by emotionally stable people C. Utility Dogs (Bulldogs, Akita) * Suitable for and preferred by people with extroverted personalities. D. Toy Dogs (Chihuahuas and Yorkies, Pugs and Pomeranians) * Owned by those who tend to be most open to try new things, imaginative, agreeable and conscientious E. Pastoral Dogs (German Shepherds, Collies, Bulldogs, Poodles and Schnauzers) * Usually preferred by those considered extroverts Although the study is no way conclusive as there are people who could just get along with any types of dogs, it however gives practical guide to people looking for a suitable dog – one that fits their personalities and lifestyles. In addition, the research helps break down stereotypes such as owners of big breeds being the bold and aggressive kind or that those who own toy dogs tend to be simpletons. Knowing that there's a dog that prefers to do certain things like humans do could mean a happier and successful partnership between dog and owner. When that happens, there'll be less dogs that to be surrendered to a shelter due to unreconcilable differences with their humans.
