LAZADA, the largest e-commerce site in the country, is now going big on pet products to cater to the fast-growing niche market made up of pet lovers, breeders and enthusiasts.
Lazada's pet section has had up until recently a motley selection of pet supplies that covers the basics. Today, Lazada showcases a dedicated category for Pets that represents key merchants led by the country's biggest chain of pet store, Pet Express. The SM pet shop now has an official store inside Lazada's e-commerce platform.
Pet food and treats, beds and accessories, grooming supplies, toiletries, aquariums and accessories, pet care, toys, collars and leashes, clothes and even pet-oriented gadgets for dogs, cats, birds, fish and small animals are now available from Lazada. There are over 300 brands of pet products to choose from.
Lazada shoppers will also occasionally find selected pet items on sale. In fact, the great deals will peak this Christmas season starting on November 11 for the “Single’s Day Shopping Festival” (known as the 11.11 Global Shopping Festival) and on December 12 (12.12). Discounts on select must-have pet products could reach up to 70 percent or more during these great sale periods which Lazada refers to as the Online Revolution.
Lazada believes the local pet industry is maturing and pet owners are warming up to the idea of also shopping online for their pets' needs. Lazada's presence in the online pet shop scene looms large over a number of local startups like PetWarehouse.ph and ILoveMyPets.ph which have carved out a piece of the young market for themselves without much big competition to think about.

DOG and cat owners now have more pet products to choose from thanks to the latest product releases by several pet companies during the just concluded Dog & Cat Expo by Pet Express.
On display at the two-day show were new types of dog kibbles, new variants of pet shampoos and soaps and new lines of canned goods and treats, among others.
Vet Specialists, Inc. unveiled their new line of Kit Cat grain free wet food consisting of six flavors of the 400g Super Premium Kit Cat and four variants each of the 80g Kit Cat Ocean Pure and Kit Cat Country Fresh. In addition, the company introduced the Kit Cat Purr Puree, a unique type of cat treat in a soft, semi-solid form that can be squeezed out from a tube. Some lucky cats that visited the expo got to try the Purr Puree which is available in eight unique flavors.
Chamco, Inc., which carries several leading brands of pet products, used this year's Dog & Cat Expo to introduce three new flavors of its popular 9Lives Meaty Pate made from smooth ground meat, fish or poultry. Aside from the existing 9Lives Meaty Pate Super Supper, cat owners can now buy the 9Lives Meaty Pate with real tuna and shrimp, the 9Lives Meaty Pate seafood platter and the 9Lives Meaty Pate with real salmon.
J Essentialz Marketing Corp. took advantage of the two-day pet expo to show dog lovers their unique allergenic, grain free moist kibble called Zenith. Available only in lamb and brown rice flavor, the Zenith, however, makes a distinction between small and large breed. This product is made in Korea and a pack consists of several smaller resealable bags to keep the rest for storage fresh.
During the show, AmPro Pet Nutrition, Inc. made a stronger push for Loyal Paws, its premium, high protein dog food that is fortified with Betaine, a natural nutrient from sugar beet. AmPro is the maker of the popular and homegrown brand of dog food, Good Boy.
Purina Philippines also made a big splash during the Dog & Cat Expo by unveiling the updated look of the packaging bag for Friskies and by introducing to the market five new flavors of Friskies Party Mix.
For bath items, FurMagic finally took the wraps off its FurMagic Soap by showing the actual product to the public.
Encased in a plastic orb, the blue FurMagic Soap has neem oil and Madre de Cacao extracts to help dogs with skin problems. It comes inside a plastic orb designed to heighten the surprise factor of the product, said a company official.
First introduced online last May 2016, the locally made FurMagic Soap is expected to be commercially available next month.
Last but not the least, Gilbert Emerson Marketing Corp. added another variant to its long line of Our Dog Shampoo. Made in Australia, the Our Dog Plus shampoo uses oatmeal and baking soda as its main ingredients. It is a soap-free shampoo said to help reduce dry and itchy skin in dogs and prevent odor and excessive oil buildup.
These new products are available in Pet Express branches and in other pet shops and every store could price these items differently.
THE Pet Expo 2015 organized by Pet Express during the first weekend of August successfully gathered hundreds of pet owners, dog and cat lovers, animal groups plus makers and sellers of pet products under one roof. Held at one of the halls inside the SMX in Mall of Asia, the show is proof of the tremendous growth the pet industry in the Philippines is experiencing right now.
The show was a good venue for pet companies to interact closer with pet owners. Lots of products from pet foods to toys and accessories were sold up to 20 percent off.
Engaging activities for pets and their owners were also held in partnership with some of the leading pet food companies. There was also a dog yoga session, bomb sniffing demonstrations and even a presentation of a beach resort and hotel of their unique accommodations for pets.
Here are some of the first day photos from the show.
