THE Department of Biology of the Ateneo de Manila University and its partner student group, the Ateneo Biological Organization – eXplore. eXperience. eXcel. (BOx), will hold another Bring Your Own Dog Day event on Oct. 10.
This will be the third BYOD Day staging inside the campus. The first one, held on Oct. 12, 2015, was part of BOx’s annual Animal Welfare Week and was designed to help members and students of the Loyola Schools to get some stress relief during midterm week in the company of dogs. The short program allowed over 200 visitors to spend time with 10 dogs in special play pens at the Science Education Complex field.
The most recent BYOD Day was held last March 14 and attracted over 300 visitors who came to see the 14 participating dogs.
The organizers ensure that all dog participants have updated vaccinations. Female dogs in estrus (heat) are not allowed to join.
BOx representatives said they plan to hold a BYOD Day four times per academic year – one every midterms and finals exam season of both semesters. The BYOD Day on Oct. 10 will be the first for Academic Year 2016-2017 and is expected to be attended by more humans and canines. The organizers would like the BYOD Day to be acknowledged by the administration as a key aspect of the school’s community wellness program and with dogs (and other animal companions) being regarded as partners in mutual healing.

IT was no ordinary Sunday at the park last weekend when dogs of various breeds and sizes occupied the Greenfield District in Pasig for hours of fun.
Exhibitors vied for dog owners' attention by showcasing their products for dogs including food and supplements, clothes and leashes, trolleys and toys, bath and grooming essentials, cages and beds, and a lot more.
Dogs participated in different games along with their owners or handlers for a chance to win special prizes from event sponsors.
Members of different dog clubs proudly brought their dogs to the event, with many of them wearing their groups' official T-shirts.

ALL Beagles, rejoice!
The Top dog in this year's highly prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is a beagle!
Miss P, a four-year-old beagle snatched the coveted Best in Show title from all other hopeful breeds, big and small, from six other dog groups. She is only the second beagle to ever win the title in the 139 years history of the show. The first and last beagle to win the Westminster in 2008 was Uno, P's great-uncle, who ended the beagle's losing streak since 1907.
Miss P, a Canadian, 15-inch beagle, also defeated a Portuguese water dog that is cousin to US President Barack Obama's presidential dog “Bo”.
Miss P breezed through the competition by doing everything flawlessly according to her handler. The victory of Miss P, full name "Ch Tashtins Looking for Trouble," is hailed as the victory for the common pooch.
