Sungahid’s winning image “Dog City” was chosen as the single best photograph taken by a Filipino photographer entered into any of the awards’ 10 open categories.
Sungahid, a solutions architect and passionate amateur photographer, from Pasig City, has won a Sony A7R II with SEL2470Z. In addition, the winning image will be part of the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at Somerset House, London from April 22 to May 8 and will be published in the annual Sony World Photography Awards book.
Sungahid said his “Dog City” image portrays one of the contingents at the Ati-Atihan Festival held in Kalibo, Aklan every January 3. His photo captured people dressed like dogs, and as Dalmatians in particular.
On winning the National Award, Sungahid said: “No words can express how lucky, grateful and overwhelmed I am. Simply because this photo was submitted during the final hour of the competition, I feel very excited to see my image featured in different forms and outlets. I am so proud to represent my country with this amazing achievement. I am so excited to see London for the first time and meet the best photographers in the world. This is definitely one of the unforgettable moments of my life!"
