Alex and Pedro have taken up residency in Facebook and YouTube as cartoon characters created by Bryan Russel S. Esperanza, a 17-year-old Filipino in 11th grade in California, USA.
A smart kid who has won in several Sudoku tilts abroad, Bryan started drawing Alex and Pedro two years ago just for fun. Gradually, Alex and Pedro became more developed characters that are steadily attracting followers.
Also known as Alex Paws, the dog is the one that asks more questions or gives observations about things that baffle him in real life like “are haters of haters haters?”
Alex's questions give a clue to the topics that appeal to young Bryan which include Math, Science, Computer and some History.
“Stuff that are not too political,” he added.
“The whole idea behind the series is for Alex and Pedro going through different adventures in their ordinary life. But there is a catch: Alex has an alter ego or double life as “Pawesome”, the nation’s superdog. Meanwhile, Pedro partnered with a media company to try to figure out Pawesome’s secret identity,” added Bryan.
His inspiration for Alex and Pedro came from different sources such as Buckles (a comic), Garfield, Phineas and Ferb and Calvin and Hobbes. If he is not doodling using good old pencil and paper, Bryan would usually draw Alex and Pedro using SketchBookX in his tablet and Microsoft Powerpoint.
Although quite busy with his school, Bryan said he is very much invested in continuing the Alex and Pedro series.
“I even have a story done. It is just taking space in my computer. I do see myself writing and drawing them for a long time,” he said.
