ASPINS are diamonds in the rough. Admittedly, the average aspin is not always strikingly beautiful but to an absolutely genuine dog lover, aspins have the same spunk and heart as any top breeds out there. With plenty of love and care, aspins can shine in ways that often surprise a lot of people.
Just like Jake.
Jake was born in Hermosa, Bataan sometime in April 2015. During that summer, he made a new friend in a young girl who was vacationing from Seattle, USA. Her name is Saylah and she and Jake grew very fond of each other.
“When we got back to Seattle, we had to figure out a way to fly Jake to the United States. After vigorous researching online, I flew back to the Philippines after a few months to get him,” Joseph told MetroPets.
It was a reunion that teared up Saylah when she welcomed her dad at the airport with Jake in tow.
“Saylah had no idea that I was going to get him!”, Joseph said.
“He likes to roam around the house during the night. It is almost like he's guarding the house for us,” said Joseph.
“They are quite shocked when we tell them we got Jake from the Philippines. We always make it a big deal to tell them that he's an aspin. We're super proud that he's an aspin,” said Joseph.
Although he is now easily 10,700 km away from his ancestral home, Jake remains a true aspin who only listens to Tagalog command words such as “upo” (sit), “alika” (come) and “dyan ka lang” (just stay there). At 35 lbs., Jake also has not lost his appetite for human food, something he has gotten used to eating in the Philippines.
But he has become quite a mama's boy as these photos show.
“We really want another aspin (in the future) and any aspin would be fine. Jake and his brothers always walked around with us during our walks in the province. They were the best dogs!,” added Joseph.
Jake is on Instagram: @hermosabalsic where everyone can follow his charmed life.
